the place of sand & long lines

isn't my husband a stud? while my hurst schnaz grows almost as much as my waistline
week two of singledom - my shaving ritual has become non-existant and i go to bed at 9, so things are basically back to post-school/pre-mission-homecoming status. i went 5 days last week without my husband or mclovin, unless you count my pillow-boyfriend [different area codes right?]. thankfully i got to reunite with my sailor this weekend in san diego for lynsey's [SIL] graduation from USD. it was a much needed reunion with justin. i wish we had a few days [or even one] to just be together but we got a night so i'm grateful for that. when you sleep too many nights alone you forget how great it is to wake up cold and blanket-less in the middle of the night because your baby boo is holding them hostage under his body - or the sweet lullaby of snores that rock you to sleep. these are the sweet signs of love that i miss terribly.
this was the best pic i could get of justin with his dad & sis
- that boy purposely sabatoges my pictures

friday lynsey had a little mixer for her pre-professional graduates then we toured the campus [beautiful!]. little to my knowledge, this would be the opportune time for my feet to become huge and inflated - while i was wearing heels [my fingers are already sausage status]. that night i picked up justin then we had a double with his mission friend spencer & his new girlfriend @ phils. waited an hour in line, but the onion rings were worth it. saturday we had a nice relaxing day that included a trip to the mission [where again, we waited over an hour. i have a theroy about this. californias REALLY like waiting in lines. they seem to do it all the time; in traffic, at resturants, in stores- really people, just go to another resturant! except i wasn't about to go to another one....but i'm a tourist so i don't count] and fun times at mission beach. that night we spent some time with dave [FIL] at ocean beach and had a nice night alone --with some donuts at rose's of course.

sunday was lynsey's big walk across the stage [no tripping - such a grown up] for her bachelors in biology. she's going to the university of houston optometry school in the fall which means road trip to texas in 4 years! and hopefully she meets a nice cowboy who buys her some red cowboy boots....but that's besides the point. larry king was the commencement speaker and let me tell you, that old dude is funny. but even if he wasn't, i was prepared with two kinds of M&Ms and ritz crackers. we followed up that up with a diner lunch @ cafe coyote then we left. and i bawled like a baby. i'm so tired of saying goodbye to him. it's at least a two week haul for us this time around so i'll prob be blogging alot. sorry world but that's the price you pay.

*sorry there's no pics of the actual graduation or time with teryl [MIL] & the gang so look for that buizness on the book full of faces when i steal them from others.
this was LITERALLY 20 ft from our hotel
there was a hippie/pot festival thing here that weekend. i was so jealous i couldn't go on it.
our hotel courtyard - isn't it gorgeous? oh, and me striking a pose
eating chocolate covered bacon - naasstty. but he took a second bite - coming from the man who ate armadillo & dog
mini baby olive update: he is so active lately! it's prob the best thing about being pregnant so far; knowing the rumblings in your tummy aren't from the taco you had from the roach coach an hour ago but from the tiny human you created. second best thing? being and getting ENCOURAGED to be lazy. oh i could go on and on, but that's for the next pregnancy update. i just wish people could feel him- whenever i get some paws on my tummy, he clams up. so obviously he doesn't take after his diva-mama but his sometimes-shy father.

my big fat single life

did i somehow forget climbing into the delorean and getting transported back to 2004? somehow i'm back to square one watching NCIS and CSI and criminal minds and numbers and every other horrible old people show every night with my parents. really? this is where i end up at 24? sadness. as my dad says "why does your husband think he can knock you up then send you back home? i hope you brought payment - this hotel ain't free" [as you can tell, i'm openly welcomed back home anytime i want].

remember my big fat greek wedding? loved it. and my parents did too. in fact, they took every opportunity they could to remind me of one particular scene. [this is where i usually put in a picture of said scene but alas, my google skills are particularly lacking these days since my fbsing/blog-stalking time has reduced from 9 hours a day to 30 minutes - tragic right? don't worry. my fan's will not suffer from my current employment. but my shoe/purse/slurpee/donut fund thanks me].

remember when toula is in her pre-makeover phase and sits peanut butter style between her dry, day-old bread of a parents on the couch? that is me. my life has once again resorted back to this same scene, yet again. is that the real circle of life? you grow up only to become the old dudette who lives at home and has her mom fluff & fold her clothes every week? life. i think i need to start asking myself and make this my motto, what would seagal do? honestly, he would fly on an eagle, crash the front door, and rip his throat out and use it as a dream catcher then ride out on a polar bear.

21 weeks
anyways - enough depressing-pseudo-psychological stuff. first week at work down. i'm loving the work and really excited to start producing something other then an excess of pee & tears. the best thing is i get to see my man tomorrow and for him to see this gal/little man. and don't be fool by this pic- i'm really not that big but for some reason, wednesday i was HUGE! [and not pantless, for my fb fans who've already seen this]. some days i'm the cow and some days i'm the hippo- can't really pick.

side note: all of my work casual pants do not fit whatsoever so i really walk around with my pants completely unzipped all day. if i were a man, i'd be a flasher. and the world would be filled that much more luckier.

feet & me

sry for the poor quality
it is over 4 yrs old on a camera phone
so among my many obsessions in my life [tweeny girl music, ruffles potato chips & green onion dip, slurpees, bruce willis, or anything pink & FABULOUS], nothing beats my obsession with feet. don't worry, it's nothing kinky. i just LOVE when people touch my feet. too bad most people think feet are gross. but here is where i married a winner - my fabulous husband has always been so kind to rub my feet. he's been using it as a source of bribery for years and it is quite the bargaining chip.

my mom said the only way to get me to shut up when i was little was to touch my feet. i don't remember her ever rubbing them when i was little [sometimes i would get her to hold them and she would occasionally rub] but my grandad always did. occasionally my grandma would too but she wasn't as good at it as my grandad. well what's with my sudden confession of my feet obsession?

my grandad & me in 2008
i got a new job! at a podiatrist's office. it's a new practice in the southwest [so quite the drive], it's more pay and it's insurance. originally, my old job was going to hold my spot for me but that didn't work out so thankfully, this came through, which i am extremely grateful for. not many employers want to hire and train a 5 month pregnant lady who is going to have to take some time off for said-baby.

driving & foot rubbing?
and they say texting/driving
is dangerous...this is just heaven
i've never had much experience with anyone else's feet [except justins - man i'm a good wife] but i get to wear pajamas scrubs everyday- score! so i'm leaving this city [and my hunky husband...which i can't think about or it makes me cry] for some warmer weather and income. and krispy kreme donuts.

photo book- the story of us part I

since my favorite sister bought me some maternity stuff online, they sent me a $20 gift card to shutterfly. it's the same place i did my sign-in book for my wedding so i already knew and loved their work. well i'm bored and had a gift card....so naturally i spent $20 more for this cute book! hopefully it reads like a storybook i can read to our kids [at least, a PG version of the events of our story] so they know how much their parents love each other. part II will be about baby olive. super excited for it to get here!

pregnancy update: young, pregnant, & FABULOUS!

so i realize it hasn't been a long time since my last update but it's my halfway point so i just couldn't resist myself. plus, no one has been blogging lately as often as they should so somebody has to start the trend. seriously people, i live in no-man's land- i need something to do during the day. [here's two pics to give you a frame of reference- bc honestly i'm not that big yet- the left is 18 weeks and right is 20. and ignore the weird boobage- my cup has begun to overflow with pregnant lady boobs]

current weekage:
20 weeks [5 months!] and halfway through my pregnancy!

poundage gained:
well, it's my second update and i've already decided that i don't want to disclose this. at my last appointment, i gained a significant amount [not a double digit number but still more then i'd like]. i freaked out about this but my dr. said since i gained so little in my previous appointments, this was normal. easy for that skinny cow to say....

things i've cried over lately:
-justin & i were talking about marie osmond's newest marriage [in the vegas temple- what! what!] and he made some remark about his next marriage. well...that tipped me off. i couldn't stop. granted, justin hitting my head with a pillow didn't help either [he's of the school of thought that hitting me helps stops tear- much like hitting an alarm clock makes it stop. spoiler alert- it doesn't]
-kenny roger's song while in the walmart parking lot

food i'm stuffing my face with this week:
-laffy taffys [why oh why did they stop making seeds in the watermelon variety?!]
-salads
-route 44 strawberry limeades
[since satisfying my olive garden & krispie kremes cravings in vegas, my hunger has significantly subsided. not that i wouldn't mind more olive garden salad and some more donuts]

i was pushing out my stomach. which i tend to
do all the time now so people think i'm
pregnant and not just chubby.
highlight of this week:
wearing my first maternity outfit was pretty fun and extremely comfortable. when i was in vegas, justin abandoned me to go fishing so i took advantage of this fact and went shopping! i don't have any friends that have kids or sisters [only one and that was AGES ago] so i had no clothes to borrow. thankfully he was so tired from his trip he never asked how much i spent....and i'm not about to reveal it here in case he reads it. but let's just say, for a household with no income whatsoever, it was a lot.

last time i saw my feet:
haha! got ya! the 4th grade. i've always been a busty gal. i am looking forward to having something new to look at when i look down.

this is the culprit - see, not that skinny but def not "i'm so
big the people at walmart think i'm smuggling hoho's
and a ham under my shirt [which i am, coincidentally]".
plus it's a side profile so everyone looks better.
skinny girls i hate as of lately:
a girl from high school college jr. high church [i can't give away too many hints in case someone knows her] who was stick-skinny to begin with and now at 28ish weeks, looks like she swallowed an apple- no joke. rachel green- her pregnancy lasted a season but it felt like 5 episodes. and she was back to her skinny self immediately post-emma. and melissa from a year ago- i was looking through old pictures and thought to myself "man i miss being skinny" but let me tell you, this mama bear has never really been skinny. just skinni-er so life is just relative.

names i'd rather poke my eyeballs out then name our baby:
-justin junior, or j.j. [one my college nemesis' - we worked together and he was obsessed with me....caitlin & i pretended thought. he hid in abandoned offices to avoid work and went into the one elevator to stink it up. he had an imaginary friend named harold the hippo who lived in the anex under the stairs. and we strongly believe he attempted a rape- he didn't come to work the next day then when he did come, he had a black eye. veryyyy suspicious....]
-ja'markus [i don't care how much justin wants a tall black baby boy to play on unlv's basketball team- it's just not going to happen!]
-liam [i just feel like it's too popular]

book i'm currently reading: [not that it has any bearing on my pregnancy but fun info]
i just finished alot of new ones and awaiting the sequel to another so i'm rereading twilights. but i just finished before bossypants by tina fey- high. lar. ious. here's some quotes
"Now every girl is expected to have Caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall BUTT [edited]...the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama, and doll BOOBS [edited]. The person closest to achieving this is Kim Kardashian, who was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes. Everyone else is struggling."
"Politics and prostitution have to be the only jobs where inexperience is considered a virtue. In what other profession would you brag about not knowing stuff? “I’m not one of those fancy Harvard heart surgeons. I’m just an unlicensed plumber with a dream and I’d like to cut your chest open.” The crowd cheers."
she did mention her birth story and how she didn't poop on the delivery table. apparently this is pretty common- which is beyond disgusting.

the prettiest little boy ever right?
how my life resembles a tv show this week:
finding out baby olive was a boy was quite the shock for me. i was convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that he was a girl. but that still hasn't stopped me from admiring all the little girl clothes- mostly because there are no cute baby boy clothes. but i couldn't help myself at walmart yesterday- this shirt embodies me in four different ways. i did once dress up my little nephew in a blue dress so i have prior offenses when it comes to baby cross dressing. justin warned me never to do that to olive, but like shannon says, what happens when justin isn't around doesn't count....
[quote from season 3 of the office - the convict episode]

Pam Beesly:Aww, she's absolutely adorable.
Hannah:He.
Pam Beesly:Oh sorry. He's- he's dressed all in pink.
Hannah:That's his favorite color.
Pam Beesly:Oh. That's... fun for him.

isn't this adorable? i'm either holding it for when i have a girl or for caitlin's baby girl- so act surprised.

decisions made this week:
justin & i are both quite opinionated so i thought deciding the baby room colors would be a hassle but alas, a mother's day miracle! we both like green and grey. and this is how we want the baby's room decorated. i really hate sailboats and animals and sport themes [why is boy's decorations so ugly?]. i found these on etsy.

oh, and this is for your viewing pleasure.

for the princess in all of us

this is not the whole gang - there was prob about 15
of us lucky ladies
i don't care what anyone said, the royal wedding WAS a big dealio. this girl was a commoner, met her prince, dated for 10 years then finally got her wedding {sound familiar? kinda like my story....well the waiting part}. ah....i love happy endings

sidenote: {actually- i do love happy endings- this show is the funniest buizness. last night's episode talked about hipsters and their love of anything ironic & disastrous clothing choices. seriously, check it out. on what other show can you learn about gaycism, jazz-kwon-do, and zombies?}

luckily the world realized the female population's constant need of everything wedding and gave us hours and hours of viewing hostess-snacks [i would say creme brulee but alas, my tastes are not that refined]. and even luckier for me, monica [justin's boss @ the legislature] threw an awesome princess party! originally we were going to watch it in the wee-hours of the morning but alas, no one looks good at 2am. thankfully she moved it to tuesday night. now my selection for female companionship in carson is pretty limited by the fact i only know 3 people here so i jumped at the chance to mingle with the fairer sex. monica held nothing back- the food was amazing [and so fancy-schmancy! i only wish i had more refined taste and not that of a 5 year old boy], the decorations were so cute, and the company was delightful! i wish i could describe the food along with the pics but alas, i can't- so make your best guesses. so we made our crowns and snacked all night while watching the wedding and it did not disappoint.

our bedazzled flutes

fancy spread

favors! don't you love those dresses?

the nuptials - is it just me or did william look like the nutcracker?

my only criticism was that william didn't slip kate a little tongue in the abby- how awesome would that have been?

when did i swallow a boy?

courtesy of this fancy lady - she's does super cute graphics & great photos!
well today was the big day. and by big day, i don't mean the day i got some long-overdue olive garden [that was yesterday] or krispy kremes [tomorrow!] but the day we find out the sex of my little olive. i've been so excited for so long - and so many people have been so excited for us! [thank goodness my light shines brightest in the spotlight]

now if you couldn't tell from all my posts, i've been convinced that i was having a girl. i just felt like the baby was a girl. i craved fruit at the very beginning and meghan did the ring test, so basically i was 100% sure i was with girl-child. well imagine my surprise when i saw a big ol'man business showing up on
the monitor! even justin thought it would be a girl [he insists he really thought it was a boy but come one, everyone changes teams once you find out for sure]. and yet no, no it wasn't.

19 weeks
[here is where i would normally put a picture documenting the fact that baby olive is a boy but alas, i think penis pictures are grossly gross so just take my word for it]

baby olive is measuring at 19 weeks, 2 days [3 days ahead of my due date] and 10 ounces and is as healthy as a nut. he wasn't as active this time but he has long legs [are we sure he's ours?] and was happy to suck on his thumb. honestly, i shouldn't be surprised my little olive would change teams so quickly. when we were little, my sister devin had a guinea pig who was named lilly. til one day she got a book and figured out how to tell the difference...and lilly became rodney. and my dad would always say "when i was a little girl...." [don't ask me - i have no idea] so naturally our family has gender identity issues.

[please note that despite baby olive's sex, he is still olive. not oliver {gag}]

so baby olive is a boy and that puts us back to square one. we had LOADS of girl names but not a single boy name. so suggestions are still being taken. we should have been more prepared- in both of our families [even with my brother & sister] boys come first so it's a zobrist/harrison tradition that still rings true [insert tevye's robust voice here].

well let's hope my little boy learns to love the color pink.

the first annual bloggie awards!

sry for the blurriness. i did steal it though
"pippi longstocking. ronald mcdonald's wife. ron howard. ron weasley. what do they all have in common? redheads."

well folks the time has come- my mother dear's birthday. oh, and my yeariversary with the blog. honestly, who knew i had this much to say? alright, alright, we all knew i had this much to say but still, this is quite the o-cassion. so in honor of my best friend/mentor/hero/role model michael gary scott, i've decided to host the very first bloggie awards [insert applause here]. award shows always open with a good joke. too made i'm all out of laffy-taffys. so here we go! oh, and before i get the awards process on, i need to make an observation for my fans. if i somehow don't make sense in a post or misspell something or say something that sounds weird, it's more then likely a quote or a reference to something else. you have NO IDEA how many times someone has corrected me for spelling need 'n-e-a-t' or used double jeopardy in the wrong context. i greatly appreciate your interest but believe me, this graceful butterfly does everything with a purpose. so i've decided to start linking some of my inside jokes/references to a page that will explain it for those who don't obsessively follow pop culture like abed and i do.

in the M.SCOTT HONORARY AWARD category, my funniest post, most specifically the letter to myself. and yes, i have had to read this many a'times; most recently at my last haircut. the winner for the BEST ART AWARD goes to the time i spoke too soon [funniest comics here]. the award for the POST THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ is melissa's version of facebook gospel. for the POST WITH THE MOST COMMENTS award goes to this one [for obvious reasons] and the every-so-famous, VIEWER'S CHOICE award goes to this post with the most hits - over 500! weirdly, not my finest hour either. in the honorable mentions, here is the time i highlighted my favorite youtube video - if you don't count the bedroom intruder. and of course, for runner-up for best post is you know you're married when.

and now for the awards that really count the most, PEOPLE'S CHOICE. for the BEST COMMENTATOR awards---it's a tie! between kinderteach [she has no blog and remains like a shark in the night...] and my bff8! for the BLOG THAT INSPIRED THIS BLOG goes to this girl i knew in college. the BLOGGER WHO I WISH HAD DONE MY WEDDING [and other fancy crafts] is this blog. and the person, who against all blog rules, who NEEDS TO WRITE ABOUT THEIR BABY MORE OFTEN.
*come on now, i know you're going to check out these links to see if you're the person i was talking about

and you may ask, where will you go from here? what more can we expect from you in the upcoming year? so i'll tell you- i don't know. i'm guessing a plethora of baby posts come september but after that, i'm stumped. so suggestions are always welcomed.
don't worry, i plan on marking my baby when it comes out
so hinder baby snatchers. and i won't eat it either.

and may i just say, i am proud of to serve the awesome people of these various countries. i don't know anything about malaysia other then what derek told me, and i love those danishes [the pastries. i don't know any of the people] but i anticipate learning more about you. oh, and who the freak wrote this? it has been driving me crazy for months. i hate anonymous commentors more so then i hate creepers who steal your pictures and make facebook profiles pretending to be you.

roadtrip: sacramento - the city that never sleeps

ah sacramento, the city of a thousand dreams [oh wait, that's not right....]. well, sacramento doesn't really have a saying, but if it would, it would be
sacramento; the city that once was home to the governator
not that it's a complete waste of space. it is the birthplace of john ensign [i know, a disgrace to us nevadans. did you hear the scuttle about him?!], rodney king, and tom hanks & molly ringwald grew up near there. oh, and it's california's state capital. that's something right? i know, it's not really much but it was good enough for a weekend getaway. not my first choice in a destination but it worked for a gal who spends her day sleeping-reading-bathing-walking-feeding geese.

justin's boss at the gop caucus inspired the trip so us, his boss, & fellow intern trekked to sacramento [less then 3 hrs away] early saturday morning. nicole's [intern] dad hooked us up with a fancy, schmancy marriot hotel close to the capital. seriously, the nicest hotel we've ever stayed at. too bad the first room they assigned us reeked of pot and the second had twin beds [much to justin's delight. he says i'm a blanket-hog].

we toured the capital and saw the many, many, many rooms. the painting of the governator wasn't up yet but i imagine it would look something like the above. then we walked the grounds, saw the boring statues, and saw our full of homeless people & squirrels. i got pooped quite easily so we rested up then dined at tres hermanas. the food was decent but the real appeal was my kitten friend snowball. she found me in a city of asphalt and even followed me to the resturant stoop! my only wish is that justin would have let me keep her. afterwards we oinked at gunther's ice cream [on the list of things to do in sacramento] and let me tell you, world's. best. ice cream. we even went there twice.

you can't tell but this is on the train.
see the sacramento river in the bottom right corner
the next day we toured old town sacramento. it was much like mexico [tons of little stores full of the same crap] but cleaner. they had a fabulous costume shop but disappointing on the donuts [and for a lady whose been craving krispy kremes for over a month now, it was an immense disappointment]. the biggest draw was the train ride! reminded me so much of the trips i took on the hogwarts express....sadly this one didn't come with a treat trolley [if you hadn't noticed, my mind only thinks of foods lately]. and the whole sitting-part was nice on my puffy feet [is it normal to be puffy this early in a pregnancy?]

oh! the best part of the trip- the spud shack. fries from around the world!! imagine the posibilities....granted i couldn't eat the garlic in the italian ones we tried but i'd glad go back and try again.

pregnancy update: james franco, kimiko & me

well here's a pregnancy update for you folks. things are pretty much not exciting at this point in the baby-making process but i always enjoy reading these so i figured my fans might too.
pls disregard the fat face - and notice the baby
bump is more 'baby + previous fat, just pushed
out more in an obvious sort of way'

current weekage:
17 weeks [4 months, 1 week]

poundage gained:
+6 lbs [total]. depressingly so. but honestly the way i eat somedays, i would guess like +15.

frustration of the week:
as much as i love carson city [and for those who read my blog just know how much i adore this place...], it has a few a BAZILLION flaws. including a lack of pregnancy clothes. i guess i'm silly to assume that huge clothing barns [such as pennys, kohls, target, or walmart] would have pregnancy clothes but how wrong was i? nothing. nada. zip. kohls did have a couple things so i bought myself my first maternity jeans and let me tell you, i've found my new pair of thanksgiving pants. not that i have to wear them yet but i'm so excited to!

skinny girl i hate this week:
this week we had dinner with a young family in our ward + missionaries and i mentioned once or twice [or three times or four...] me being pregnant [like how i can't handle some foods or how i cry when i think of animals being slaughtered]. i've done it many times before to this woman. well, she revealed this week she's pregnant too. and just as far along as me. and looks like a railroad post- did i mention this is her 3rd baby? i thought people who've had babies before are supposed to get bigger faster? i felt like such a complaining cow next to her.

how my life resembles 30 rock this week:
did i tell you i have a favorite sister? i do- shannon [don't worry- this title revolves around the sister who spoils me the most that week. my love can be bought]. i was complaining talking to her about life here and mentioned how i needed a bellyband [definition: a thick strap of fabric that holds you unbuttoned pants up when you are too fat for them normally] so my gracious sister offered to buy me one. but she bought me two! i'm so excited! my pants have gotten uncomfortably tight these days. but that's not how my life resembles 30 rock- she also bought me a body pillow! a must for those who have to sleep on their sides now. i'm contemplating naming it kimiko in honor of james franco.

food i'm stuffing my face with this week:
i've developed this habit of buying treats and hiding them around the house. currently: sour cream & onion chips, cherry 7up, cherry laffy taffy and hoho's. man i'm such an oinker. but my beloved has a habit of not being able to pace himself with treats- and these will last me....at least 3 days. i still can't eat much meat or big meals, but i do love me some cereal. i finished off 4 boxes on thursday. granted, they only had about a 1/2 cup in each of them.

things i'm most looking forward to this week:
getting pregnant-fat, not my-gut-sticks-out-more-then-normal fat. our trip to sacramento tomorrow. finding out the sex in 2 weeks. getting bossypants [tina fey] and belly laughs  [jenny mccarthy] from the library.

activity i used the 'i'm pregnant' excuse this week:
carrying groceries in from the store [we DO live on the 2nd floor], having to pee every 5 minutes, why i didn't want to watch a stupid discovery show justin wanted to, my need for a smoothie after not eating dinner, and leaving my pants unbuttoned.

exercise regimen i'm pretending to do this week:
i like going on long walks [sometimes i run until i feel like im going to die....so maybe 3 blocks], doing baby yoga [is it just me or are these just basically stretching? i think being flexible got me in trouble in the first place so.....double jeopardy], and baby pilates. i've noticed in the pregnancy workout videos, things are either really easy or disgustingly suggestive. such as this move. again....i think this is what got me in trouble in the first place.
